The Frog Tanks Trail is only 7.1 miles in length but it starts and ends in the middle of the Superstition Wilderness. We did this hike as a 30 mile loop over 3 days: Rogers Trough trailhead to Reavis Ranch, to Circlestone, to Frog Tanks, to Angel Basin, and back to Rogers Trough. That loop needs to be done after significant rain to make sure there's water in the creeks near Angel Basin. There aren't reliable springs at Angel Basin.
The most scenic section of the Frog Tanks hike is the one between the Tanks and Angel Basin. A good hike would be a two day trip from Rogers Trough through Angel Basin turning around at the Tanks--14.6 miles round trip. There are camp sites at both Fish Creek and the Tanks--see photos 31 and 51. The northern end of the trip could be done from the Reavis Ranch Trailhead near Apache Lake--that would be a 20 mile round trip taking roughly 13 hiking hours. Take time on this hike to look around--the scenery is fantastic! The rocky spires and canyons would make a good location for filming a fantasy movie.
Note that many topo maps do not show the current route of the trail as it leaves the Tanks below Frog Spring. The trail south to Fish Creek does not follow the creekbed but heads sharply uphill and west to near the map location of Frog Spring. If you're expecting that, the trail is fairly easy to follow although the northwestern segment is somewhat overgrown with catclaw.
The Frog Tanks trail sees little traffic so don't count on seeing other hikers even during peak hiking weekends. Take sufficient water for the entire trip with you unless it has recently rained and you're sure that there is water in the creeks.
