Jacobs Crosscut Trail travels north/south along the western face of Superstition Mountain. The entire trail is just outside the boundary of the Superstition Wilderness--if you look to the west you'll see streets and houses. The attractions of this trail are: it's a relatively easy hike, the closeup views of Superstition Mountain.

The hike is 6.2 miles one way and it takes 2.5 to 3 hours one way. It can be done as a 12.4 mile roundtrip, as a car shuttle, a key exchange hike, or you can hike in and out halfway from both ends on different days. The trail passes through the Lost Dutchman State Park--the best views of Superstition Mountain are in the park and to the south. The section north of the park often has some of the highest concentrations of wildflowers in the spring--especially Gold Poppies.

The north end is on First Water Road about a mile east of the Apache Trail (SR-88). The turnoff from SR-88 onto FR-78 is about 1/4 mile NE of Lost Dutchman State Park. It's a gravel road but suitable for passenger cars.

The south end is the Broadway Trailhead which is at the end of Broadway Road, east of Mountain View which has a light on US-60.

The northern trailhead has an elevation of 2100 feet. The southern trailhead is at 1965 feet. The high is 2232 feet. The low is 1875 feet. So it doesn't make much difference which end you start from.
