This is an alternate route for the upper third of Siphon Draw. It is not the recommended or the usual route. It has extreme scree that requires all-fours to climb. If I tried to come down it, I would use all-fives: hands, feet, and seat of my pants. The only thing going for this route is that it avoids the 10 foot wall near the top of Siphon Draw. For details on the lower portion of the climb see my Siphon Draw pages. I've marked these photos with red dots to show the approximate route. You can download a GPX track of my route. It may not be the best way--there are other paths visible on this slope.

Climbing Superstition Mountain to the Ridgeline via Siphon Draw is difficult and dangerous. The Forest Service cautions against this climb: "There have been several serious injuries, as people tried to follow a route that climbs up the side of the mountain. Don’t go there." This alternate route up Siphon Draw is as dangerous as the main route--it's just a slightly different set of challenges.
